volunteer with us

Are you looking for an opportunity to:

  • Work in a small team?

  • Meet new people?

  • Challenge yourself?

  • Discover and share the hidden stories of Chard?

  • Use your experience and skills?

  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle?

The Museum opened again on August 01st for our 50th Anniversary season. There are many opportunities to volunteer with the Musuem,

Opportunties include

  • Join our team of Researchers who undertake specific research requests from our visitors. This can include working with people face to face in the museum, through Live Chat on our website or via email. This work helps build the stories behind many of the artefacts in the museum.

  • Work with the Collections team who are constantly maintaining, recording and archiving donated artefacts. These include the physical artefacts displayed in the Museum, photographic images showing Chard through the ages, and maps showing how Chard has changed.

  • Support the Displays team who are always looking for creative people to develop, change and upgrade displays in both the Museum, on the website, or creating multi-media displays.

  • Become a Steward and greet and welcome visitors. Some visitors enjoy being shown around the exhibits and hearing, in more detail, about their history and significance.

  • Share knowledge when schools or other groups visit the museum. We are always looking for people to join our group who attend schools, memory cafés and other networks to give specialist talks.

  • Join our Event Co-Ordinators who plan and organise an annual programme of activities in the Museum. They are always looking for help both on the day, but also in advance with the logistics and planning.

Our guests and visitors are at the heart of the Museum especially as we build our community focus so please join us to bring history alive to our local communiry.

Complete the Volunteer Application Form and we contact you and arrange a discussion either in the Museum or via Zoom.
