Groups and schools

The Museum offers visits and guided tours to schools and adult groups. There is also a group of local historians who can come to you, to give a talk on an agreed topic, participate in memory cafés or display and talk about items from the Museum.

Additionally, History boxes are available for loan on the themes of Chard History, World War II and the Victorians. These are suitable for those who want to run their own activities in a school, those running memory cafés in residential care home’ or as part of other group activities. You can also ask us to collate additional Resource boxes if you are planning a specific event or theme.

The Museum is a charity run entirely by volunteers. It must raise income to maintain and be sustainable. So a donation is requested when a school or group visit or activity is planned.

We ask that

  • Schools donate £1/child, teachers come free. This includes a visit or a discussion by telephone or by Zoom with teachers in advance, to agree the content and a programme for the visit

  • Small adult groups of under 15 - £30, over 15 - £40. Refreshments, can be available and are charged at £2-50/person (tea, coffee, light refreshments and cake)

  • Members of the Museum who help at Memory Cafe's or give talks to outside groups agree a donation during the planning discussion

  • History boxes are loaned at no cost but must be collected and returned to the Museum within an agreed timescale? If a talk or someone to attend with the History box is requested then a donation can be discussed
