Waiting for a tour then experience Chard Revealed with local historians Craig Hussey and Sheila Bland. A collection of more modern images of Chard people, business and building drawn from Craig’s collection, the Dave Wheadon Collection and the Museum archives will be on display with an opportunity to share and collect memories.
.. and Chard History Group will be sharing fascinating genuine artefacts giving you a chance to handle a civil war cannonball, 2500-year-old bronze sword or a stone age axe! We'll also be pleased to chat about Chard’s history, our monthly talks, excursions and have copies of our books available. Venue Chard Guildhall. 10:30 – 13:30. No admission fee.
Saturday 3rd August - Chard Museum Open Day
Take the opportunity to visit the Museum and talk to our volunteers who can answer all your questions about the local history of Chard. Touch the artefacts, for example feel an original James Gillingham prosthetic and appreciate the difference between the handmade craftsmanship and later models that were mass produced by American companies.
Join Craig for another Chard Revealed. Craig and others will again be sharing more photographs from different archives. The exciting part is that you can bring your own images or questions… want to know what happened to a certain business from the 1950s onwards or what was ‘there’ previously. It us just a wonderful opportunity to share.
Family activities including arts and crafts workshops and treasure hunts or activities for our younger visitors will be available.
Music will be provided by the Chaffcombe Reservoir Dogs from 12:00 until 13:30. Why not bring a picnic and enjoy our Paddock with family and friends. Some blankets will be available. Refreshments will be available; donations would be welcome.
Venue Chard Museum. Doors open at 10:00 until 15:00. Entry Fee: Adults £2.00 those under 16 no cost. For more information click the link here.
